WELCOME TO FUNKY MONKEY FABRICS!

My name is Melissa, and I’m the owner of Funky Monkey Fabrics Inc.

While on maternity leave with my daughter, I discovered a new creative spark. I taught myself how to sew and began making all kinds of things for her—sleep sacks, car seat covers, diaper bags, dresses, and more. As my passion grew, I quickly realized how difficult it was to find the fabrics I loved here in Canada. I often had to source them from other countries, and that challenge sparked an idea.

I set out on a mission to create a fabric shop that offered affordable, premium-quality fabrics and sewing supplies for fellow Canadians. From that vision, Funky Monkey Fabrics was born!

We’ve been proudly in business since August 2013 and are now the largest retailer of minky fabrics in Canada (and top 3 in the world!). We carry a wide variety of fun licensed, novelty, and popular prints in cotton, minky, flannel, and fleece, along with all the essentials—notions, batting, rulers, and more. Truly, we’re your one-stop fabric shop!

When I'm not busy with the store, I spend my time travelling, going to concerts and enjoying the outdoors. I have 2 teenagers and 3 cats that keep me busy too!

Hi there! My name is Shawna and I love all things sewing related: fabric of every colour and pattern, old vintage sewing machines, buttons, notions, vintage sewing chairs, and on and on! I have been a proud Funky Monkey Fabrics employee since January 2019, but when I'm not there gleefully cutting fabric, I can be found at home in my sewing room with my faithful Pugs Norman and Minnie, or at my puzzle table, or at the ballpark! I'm lucky to be married to my best friend, Jeff, and we have 3 amazing kids, Jordon, Josh and Ella! So thankful to be a part of this FMF community!
